Holy cow, this kid is almost as tall as I am... and is so very sweet & so very, very handsome.
He is my most favorite 11 year old. EVER.

We are so proud of the young man he is! He is killing the 6th grade (and his dad's wallet with all those A's). We love ya, my buddy.

Did ya miss me? :) I know you did!

Whelp, I got me a J.O.B (on top of my J.O.B). I have been a SAHM of 4 for as long as I've been an Air Force wife (I will follow him, follow him where ever he may go) and I have been quite content with that.
I love being a mother; its my biggest achievement, my toughest challenge with some of the roughest days of my life.
Photography has been my passion since high school. I am as passionate about photography as I am my children, with a strong desire to be better every day.

In a hot, cramped Target studio, I am click'n-a-way doing what I love. I'm struggling with the "flow" posing, the "tic-tak-toe" layers and making sure I get what I need in 18 frames... behind a NIKON
(I'm a Canon girl), I'm struggle'n :) But I absolutely love it and with time I hope to be great.

I will continue to keep up with my natural light (cause that's where its at) and I will continue to grow as a photographer. My future is bright! :)

I am so thankful for what I have!

As I mentioned above... working with a Nikon... I kinda feel like a cheater... I have been so busy that I've not even turned on Ma'Lady in a couple of weeks... yup, ya heard! WEEKS.

until... today :)

Now, if I could just figure out how to bring "me" into the studio... that would be a great.

With time, I guess, I will figure it all out and be comfortable no matter the situation, no matter the equipment. Again, my future is bright!

And... the title really says it all. I have "weekend adopted" this wonderful little guy. I think my boys would be lost without him. They talk to each other like brothers, they play together like brothers and they sometimes fight like brothers. I wouldn't have it any other way. Its great!

Inspiration {an M4H challenge}

All 4 of my kids inspire me with just a look, that perfect sparkle of light in their eyes, their silly grins, the look that says exactly who they are.

My daughter, bless her heart, is my "go to" always. Mostly because the boys aren't interested in sitting for long periods, or seeing what beauty comes from the end result.

Now, K is always beautiful! some days its the mood she's in, or how she did her makeup or her hair that day-- or no makeup at all, or the crazy outfit she came out of her room in, or her school uniform-- or the mood she's in (lol)... my list could go on forever :) She is just full of MY inspiration.

14. I can't believe how time has just flown by... makes me sad to think about-- My girl is growing up.

However, age has not stopped her from acting, looking and wanting the way she did when she was little.

still innocent and full of wonder, still asking for things like pillow pets for her birthday and still crossing her feet the exact same way she did when she was little.

As I've said before Oplove has brought great people into my life, people that I hope to continue on knowing, not only as clients, but as friends as well. I've felt a connection to every one of them in one way or another. Again, I am so thankful and honored to be part of the Oplove family, that I can give back something very simple to these families. Its nothing compared to what they do.

This family is full of happiness, despite the hardships they will be facing in the year (plus) ahead.

With both of us being new to the area... we kinda got lost (never listen to modern technology-- I was told :) in the not so good area of Shreveport-- they still brought their biggest smiles and lots of laughter. it was great.

Joy Of Love {day 1}

I'd like to dedicate my Joy of Love to my husband, Dan.

Sometimes there is never enough credit where credit is due. And I am not sure that I say "Thank you" enough. I love you with all of my heart!

{day 1} What they do:

he is currently taking a math class that likes to take up a lot of his time, therefor there are many late nights these days.

But... there is always snuggle time

the light is coming from his iphone-- setting the alarm clock for an early morning rise... to come home to do it all again.

And... he is always thoughtful. always letting me know he loves me-- in one way or another

He left me a love note this morning on my keyboard, where he knows I'd wake to find it. Just a sweet note telling ME "thank you", when it should really be me telling HIM "thank you".

I look forward to this month being more about him. I love you, Dan. You are the BESTest ever!

My iso was cranked to 6400, yikes-- I know... but we live in a dungeon (well, that is what it feels like these days with this weather) the light is so poor.

LJ & Roomie {OpLove #2}

OpLove has brought some wonderful people into my life, I am truly thankful and feel truly blessed.

With such beautiful sun light, a fabulous location and a wonderful lil lady-- even with our security guard stalker-- the session couldn't have gone better.

A pregnancy can be an exciting & scary thing, especially for a first, and doing it without your husband is something many of us Military spouses have had to face.
But let me tell ya, I haven't met many pregnant ladies or military spouses that are as strong as the one I met today.

Looking so forward to the coming weeks, being able to meet the little life growing strong in her belly, her roomie, their Garrett. Missing her man, him missing her and the birth of their first born will most likely be one of the toughest things they will have to face in their marriage.
But she is strong! ... and so ready to snuggle and kiss her little man, it might make missing the other man in her life a little more tolerable.

You are truly a beautiful person inside and out! I'm so glad that I was the one that popped up on the zip code finder :)

Off of the Sunabe Seawall in Okinawa Japan. I felt like she was telling me to take a look at this wonderful place. With so much going on in today's world... an innocent wonder, seeing the world through a 3 year olds eyes-- it can be a beautiful place.

First {OpLove} Family sneak peek

I was introduced to Operation Love Reunited through I heart faces and knew it was the kind of organization that I wanted to get involved with.

I understand what its like to be married to the military as I am an Air Force spouse, with a deployment or two under my belt, wishing I'd been introduced to this organization myself, the first I'd ever heard of it was seeing it on I heart faces.

I was elated when my application was approved! I couldn't wait to jump in and get started. I am new to this area and haven't met many people, thankfully the base is aware of the program and offers it to their deployed spouses. The zip code finder is also an excellent source (... if you're aware of the organization).

I hope that I am able to bring more awareness regarding this organization to the area.

This brings me to my first Oplove client and her two wonderful boys.

I am so thankful that Oplove brought you into my life! you're not just a client, but a friend. I've enjoyed all of our conversations and look forward to the growth of our friendship-- not just between us but between our kiddo's too.

Good luck to your oldest on his journey through medical school!! It was great to meet him.

Ohio Family

Friends of the family, I was so excited to get her email a few months ago requesting a shoot!
I couldn't wait for December to roll around.

This was my first indoor shoot (other than shooting my own kids) and I have to admit that it was so much harder than an outdoor session. Finding my light, making sure it was even, hiking up my iso... and such.

However, this session was more personal, playful and less "posed" then some of my previous sessions. They were able to be who they are, comfortable in their environment; it was great ( I even got bare piggy toes, in Dec.!).

Little B would have rather had me there to play than to take his picture :) We had lots of extra's in the photo's... but we certainly made it work.

I chose this last picture, not the normal family picture, because it showcased the amount of playfulness and fun we had that morning. There were some real laughs... no forced or fake smiles.

Thank you C family for having me in your home! I hope to get you back in front of my lens this summer!!

A Morris winter wonderland

I have to admit that I really missed the cold weather, but so glad to not have to live in it...
although as I write this the state of Louisiana just issued a state of emergency winter warning--
Since this morning they've closed roads, we get frequent TV interruptions with updates... and we have lost power once already. However I'm pretty sure that it wont bring the kind of snowy fun that OH welcomed us with. O' well. We'll see what our state of emergency "winter" storm brings.
Bring it on LA. Bring it! [outside temp: 32 -- yup. you heard -- thirty-damn-two]

I'll be back with more blog posts! I have lots of good stuff from our visit :) And... they advised us to stay indoors, do NOT drive... so today, all I have is time-- its on my side. yes it is.

H & E Fam-ily

First I want to start off by saying how much these two families mean to me, not just because we share a love for my kids but because they've known me (and cared for me) for more than 1/2 my life. Some people may think our family dynamic shouldn't work... but its does & I'm thankful.

Now... I was home for a short time, it was SO cold outside and this little guy was fighting a cold and wasn't feeling well at all... but he gave it his best :) This kid is one of the coolest, cutest... ever!

This is a couple that you read about in books as a kid... true high school sweethearts! They've been together since they were 12, skating around Beaver Vu holding hands.
They've grown to be such wonderful people and the best parents a kid could ask for. I am so happy for the both of you.

Ok. so. the reason behind the photo chosen this week for my photo bliss {inspired by Rita with The Coffee Shop blog} is because my little man is growing up *sigh*. He decided on his own that it was time for the potty. We'd worked on it before the move... then the move happened.
He decided the best way to be was-- to be-- running free, with nothing but his Elmo hands.
Gotta love it.

Under Renovation

Christmas Cheer {finding my Holiday joy}

So... I decided to put up a tiny tree even though we leave in NINETEEN days! Can't you just feel my excitement!? 19 days and counting. :) Taking a class and putting up a few Christmas decorations has helped me get into the Holiday spirit. Shopping is almost done, I'm feeling good... I'm going home!

Hello M-Mode!

Goodbye AV mode!!

Finding the Holiday joy isn't the only class I've taken inspiring me to work out of my comfort zone (AV is where its at). Taking a picture of a kid, on the go... on M-mode, forget about it. I've felt the frustration and turned my dial back.

There is still so much time, learning, more effort to put into manual-- it can be a very scary setting. But the results today were... rewarding. Although a bit noisy and on the fly, I got THEM!

This is my first blog post for {finding the Holiday joy}

This Holiday season is going to be different for my family because, after spending 7 wonderful years in Japan, we are going to be spending the Holidays with family in OH. And because of this (and a recent PCS) we are doing things different this year. I'm still not sure if I want to pull out all the Christmas decor. I am still putting up, organizing... re-organizing, re-putting up stuff from the move -- do I want to add to that?...
I will, for the sake of my kids, put up a tiny tree. Thanks to Black Friday they've already received an early Christmas gift (not so sure how we'd pull off getting the trampoline back from OH, lord knows the car is full enough without the added gifts).
I did pull out the Advent, not just because {finding the Holiday Joy} inspired me to, but because we need a count down to Gramma's house.

Its meant to be filled with goodies but Ro decided to use it as a... parking garage :)

We saw this spot on the way home from the prospective ran down corner store. The corner store definitely had potential and charm... but, was not a spot for little guys. We'll have to test that spot out another day.

Rj slept in the car while the rest of us played. He did end up waking up before we left but he wasn't much of a participant, but that's ok, he's my subject most of the time any way.

What a great day! We had weather in the upper 40's by the time we got out of the house and the sunshine was absolutely perfect. I am still getting acquainted with the Haughton area so we didn't venture out far (at all). We wondered along the Fox Trail in our housing development talking about all kinds of things, trying to keep pace with the almost 3 year old running the show. I am shocked that the kid gave me as many smiles as he did... it was great. AND Miquela is always absolutely beautiful, the camera loves her. So, honestly... we did more play then "J.O.B." shadowing.

I love my kids & I love what I do.

Frightful Night!!! Well, Not Really...

So I had a dream last night that I am dying to tell you about. Let me see, how does this go.

I was visited by an alien, he was here to kidnap me. Quite a cutie huh!?...

But he meant business...

I knew I was in trouble when Death showed up, I just knew this wasn't going to be my night

Oddly enough this Mr. Death was nice

Just as the two were trying to get me, the law showed up, Say hello to Mr. Woodie

Thank goodness for the Sheriff, he took care of those thugs. Scared'em so bad, they fled without their mask

Now every night I fall asleep with my own little patrolman watching over my house

And patrolling the streets of my mind, ensuring those bad guys never return

Home sweet Home

The next stop on our journey was HOME! There is nothing like being home, its where the heart always is. Since we've been a way siblings graduated, got married, had babies, grew up, got lives... I mean, didn't they know they were supposed to wait till we got back? dang it.

I was sad to leave, as I am every time, but this time was easier because we are no longer on the other side of the Globe... AND we'll be back for Christmas, a BIG family Christmas. && I am positive we'll have visitors for Mardi Gras ;D

Here is a brief intro to some of my great family ((... before my camera had to be sent in for service))

Fun in the Hawaiian Sun - a speedy quick review

Our move from Okinawa Japan to Barksdale AFB, in good 'ol Louisiana (might as well be called Texans), came quick fast and in a hurry. We had TWO weeks to clear our house and hit the road. With that said, there was lots of emotion, anxiety & STRESS.
We're a Military family and should be used to this kind of stuff... right?

Our journey back to US soil was... just that, a journey. First of all we have this beautiful 80lb Dalmatian who has been a part of this family for 3 years, we couldn't leave her behind. And because we left in such a hurry we weren't able to get her on a military flight out. So. now. I'll save you all the yucky, painful details of this move and share the good stuff.

Hawaii: (the vacation before the "vacation")

where the beaches aren't much different from Oki

& the water is just as beautiful! The rest of the Island, well, that's another story for another day...

Pearl Harbor, however, was amazing. A great history lesson for my children and a somber experience for us grown-ups.

Can you feel the Patriotism?
I sure did!
It brought tears to my eyes for those we lost that day and sadness to my heart for their families.

On the ferry ride across Pearl Harbor, we saw the greatest site.

Now, take a look at this rainbow and the blue sky. I don't think I'll ever see another one like it.

Hawaii was an experience! And if we ever choose to visit again, I hope it will be more on our terms. :)

New friends. New school. New life. LA gives us a warm welcome

A move means a lot of NEW. My kids have been in Japan for 7 years, eating Japanese food, following Japanese faux fashion, in a school system with kids in the same situation. I have to say that my kids have done so well. Even adjusting to a life in uniforms. They look sharp! My ten year old has already been bit by the Louisiana twang. I make him repeat some of his words just to hear it. It's hilarious.

KFES 4th of July Bash

We had a great time for America's Birthday. This year we spent the day with the Fire Department.

There was a carnival for the kids to enjoy, although the 1 hour wait to get into kiddie land only to wait another 1.5 hours to go in a jumpy castle wasn't worth our time.

Instead we sent the boys out with $10 each to have fun. As you know boys love their guns. They searched and searched to find the game that would award them a fantastic prize. After $9 the three boys gained their prized $.50 plastic gun.

It was age and experience against youth and great hair, and there could only be one winner!

Only one came out on top

Fake bullets weren't the only thing flying around the battlefield. So too were the water balloons.

Here is David getting BLASTED by his sister, he doesn't even know it is coming.

Rojo wasn't a big fan of hitting others in the battle, he was content just popping them himself.

While the big kids were out having fun, the lil'est of them all were just enjoying some fresh air.

7 great years in Paradise coming to an end

With our time drawing to a close here in Okinawa. I am not conducting many more photo shoots. The slowdown in work is allowing me spend the last moments on Okinawa with my family.

To celebrate we decided to make a trip back to the first beach we visited seven years ago.

Hama-Higa Island is a beautiful little secluded island located on the west side of Okinawa. The home to two little villiges, Hama on one side and Higa on the other. The local economy builds around the fishing trade.

I hit the jack-pot today, buddy.

I know, I know... military this, military that. There is definitely a downside to choosing this career path we're on, but then again... I've met some of the most wonderful people on the face of this earth that I probably wouldn't have had the opportunity to meet otherwise.

This family has become part of my family, spending holidays, birthdays and all those special occasions families never miss.

We will forever be a part of your lives, Patch Family. I love you all with all of my heart.
